If everyone's being fed the same line about passion being the ULTIMATE factor, then how does it distinguish itself these days while being so commonly subscribed as the solution? If everyone's faking passion for a prospective job then how does that really stand out as a desirable attribute? How does passion translate to an online application that never allows you to say one word except what it asks for? It's more important to employers that you're the reliable workhorse who'll take shit from them without raising a storm. They want an obedient chimp.

More people, fewer jobs. What's left for the dreamers? Shitty customer service jobs, manual labor, dish washing, coffee shops... if you can even land that!

Who's is connected and genuinely passionate about these awful career paths? Can you blame them for not being thrilled about working for some psychopathic corporation?

That's your big solution? You don't even go into anything of substance you just hand out some cliched answer. Have more passion for the shitty job you still probably won't get than the other guy? You forget the dozen+ other guys probably are already maxed out on how pumped and pseudo enthusiastic they are. Yep, wear that smile ear to F'ing ear and you too can be a wal-mart store greeter or a gas station attendant!

More people. Less jobs. That's the continuing reality we are facing.

Yea, let's see how far 'passion' goes, how far wanting and desiring in vain for reality to align to our inner delusions (like that America still has 'opportunity' or that there are enough jobs out there) gets us. Maybe people need to start diverting that misplaced passion into changing the broken system into one that actually benefits its people (their dreams, their spirits, etc).
